Recipe: How to make green tea furikake seasoning
Green tea has been around in Japan since ancient times, and is believed to be one of the core reasons Japanese live longer lives. The tea leaf contains carbohydrates, vitamins, protein, fat, and minerals which you shouldn't dispose after brewing the tea.
Except vitamin C and minerals, the nutrients in the tea doesn't dissolve well to the hot water, so other nutrients actually stay in the leaf. By eating the tea leaf, you can live a healthier life, easily.
Today we wrote an easy way to eat the tea leaf, by making it into a furikake(ふりかけ)seasoning. This nutrient rich furikake will be an easy way to make your diet a lot healthier!
How to make green tea furikake seasoning
Ingredients
- green tea leaf after brewing
- other seasonings of preference. (this time, sesame, jako dried fish)
- soy sauce...1 teaspoon
Instructions
After brewing your green tea, squeeze off the excess water and let it dry. The less moist it is, the easier to make the furikake.
- put the green tea leaves in a pan on medium heat. Use a spatula to break the leaf apart and let the water evaporate from the leaves.
- When the tea starts to break apart, add the other seasoning of choice. Have it give off a roasted kind of smell in this sesame case, and add the soy sauce to let it blend in with the furikake.
- Put it in a heat resistant container to cool off for use.
Key Points
This time I made the furikake from Sencha(煎茶) but you can also make it from Genmaicha (玄米茶)and hojicha.(ほうじ茶)
We recommend other toppings like katsuo bonito flakes(鰹節)or seaweed(海苔)to include with the furikake. Of course, the most typical way to eat this furikake is over white rice, but you can also top it on pasta or something like cheese toast.
You shouldn't just drink tea, you should be eating it, too!
Green tea actually loses its flavor quickly, so you should be consuming it in a fast pace. When you have another reason that adds flavor to your dishes using green tea, it should boost consumption speed, resulting you to taste fresh green teas!
Green Tea carries umami that is actually important to enhance flavor, so by starting to eat tea, it might give you more cooking insights!
