I decided to collect good stories from Japan, and I want to introduce a very popular motivation song, "Nandodemo" 何度でも which means "many times" but in this case "I will try again and again."
After I started studying the lyrics of Japanese songs, it really represents our mindsets, and it might give hints to those struggling right now. So here is what the song lyrics mean. It might help internationals trying to study Japanese, too!
How many times would I have to wipe my tears before my voice is heard?
There is no happy exit from being upset about something or someone
I will stand up and call you, a number of times
Your name, until my voice can no longer call you
Even if I regret or am in pain
Even when I give my best shot but it collapses,
I will still remember you
Even if I am exhausted by failing 10,000 times,
my 10,001st time might change something
Every time I say it the real meaning behind what I want to tell runs away
I will stand up and call you, a number of times
Your name, until my voice can no longer call you
Even when I am down or have no more energy to try
I will still remember you
Even if I am exhausted by failing 10,000 times,
my 10,001st time might change something
Look forward and stick to it
Have a fist on your chest, not give up and shout!
I will stand up and call you, a number of times
Your name, until my voice can no longer call you
Even if I regret or am in pain
Even when I give my best shot but it collapses,
I will still remember your song
Even after this when I trip, hurt someone or get hurt, or when I feel the endless anger, I will hold on to it in my arms
Why aren't I understood? Why can't I accurately tell what I intend?
I will continue to fight this panting and grief.
Even if the 10,000th time doesn't work out and I have no more hope,
The 10,001st chance will come
I will keep cherishing my voice calling you,
and my 10,001st time might be tomorrow.
This song is a love song, but it is more known for not giving up. A lot of students going through exams to get into college listen the most.
We all have struggles through our lives, and this song helps us to have faith in what we do, and work towards reaching our own goals which is described as a very long, "100,001st time."
But life is a journey. A buddha will be sitting on a lotus in many temples, and lotus grown in mud. Struggles are what makes us grow and we should cherish this.
Why I started to share Inspiring stories from Japan
The Covid Pandemic was definitely not a pleasant period for me. It destroyed my projects and my business couldn't survive. People say it's the Great Reset, but I've met people that look forward and say
it's a new renaissance.
Since I've been vaccinated I feel my body doesn't really function the same as before. I might live a long life, I might die today or tomorrow. What Covid taught me is I should live life to the fullest today and focus on things that make me happy.
So I hope what I share inspires you to focus on the things that make you happy:)
I'm in my 5th month in Karatsu, and I've recognized something interesting. There is a little bit of Bushido left in Karatsu. Back about 400 years, a samurai lord wanted to expand to the continent and gathered his troops in Karatsu from across Japan. The Daimyo lords put their temporary houses, temples, and cultures here so that's probably one reason why I feel a bit of Bushido left in the Karatsu people. There are mainly 3 reasons I felt bushido in the city. 1. Karatsu Castle My daily walking course includes Karatsu Castle. When I head towards the castle, there is a volunteer uncle that is taking care of the trees planted to protect Karatsu from the ocean waves. The way he talks, somehow resembles the samurais I see on tv dramas. When he learned that I grew up in California and from outside of town, but love Karatsu, he vowed and told me to be careful on the way to the castle. He emphasized that the stairs are steep and could cause injury, so I need to be careful. But the...
Out of the major cities of Japan which includes Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Kyoto, Sapporo, and Fukuoka, Fukuoka is the hub of our southern island Kyushu and is a smart city that has an international airport just 10 minute train ride away from the city center. For a big foodie like me, local food is very important when I visit a city. After living in Hokkaido which is said to be the food capital of Japan, and the kitchen of Tokyo Tsukiji and Ginza area, I learned Fukuoka is my favorite place for good food. I've just started discovering Fukuoka, but I want to share with you what I love about it so far. Smart and compact City When it comes to how smart the city is, Fukuoka is probably my favorite city in the world right now. I'm always amazed how close the airport is to the city center, just 2 subway stations apart. Fukuoka Airport is still compact and not as big as Narita or Kansai, the two biggest airports of Japan, nor is as busy like Chitose in Sapporo. The city center, Hakata has...
My first business didn't work out well. It did take me a while for me to recover mentally and financially. But 3 years in and I look back that it's not a big deal to make mistakes. It actually helps you to reflect on it, and gives you hints on how you could improve. Without failing it's difficult to improve and become better. It's about how you view and act towards failure that is crucial. The more mistakes you make earlier in life the better Before starting the business, I always seemed to have the pressure that I had to succeed. Or to be right and correct all the time. But actually it's the opposite. I need to make a lot of mistakes, and learn to get back up as fast as possible for the next challenge. I realized this when my mother kept repeating that "I failed my business" every time we talked on the phone. My mom sounded like it was the end of the world while I was beginning to think it might be the start of something new. Well, when you lose a lot ...
