The 3 dishes I really wanted to try in Bangkok and how it was!!
They all were very good... and well worth the travel here.
Today I want to share the 3 dishes I had to try and how it was!
Green Curry from Duklong Cafe
I have a big love for green curry, and I really wanted to try the massaman curry.
This cafe is in the Khaosan area, by the river. It has a really lovely setting, and it is so cozy to spend time here.
The green curry isn't too spicy, and it tastes really nice.
Usually, in Thailand, the food has an intense flavor but this is really gentle.
You might say "Oh, then it isn't real Thai" which I agree with.
But the owner told me she makes it from scratch without using MSG either.
That's why it tasted gentle...
Massaman Curry from Duklong Cafe
The massaman was quite difficult to find, as many food stalls have it on their sign, but will always say they are out.
So the massaman curry also comes from the same cafe as the green curry!
I knew why as the massaman curry had so complex flavors in the dish.
Here, the mango smoothie was also very nice. I think the 4.9/5 stars on Google Maps reviews say a lot of people agree that it's a cozy cafe to go to, the food makes you happy, and the staff is warm and nice people.
Poo Pad pong Curry
One of my favorite places to eat in Tokyo is actually Thai food, Pad Pong Curry at Krung Siam. This pad pong curry will be squid and shrimp, while the Poo Pad Pong Curry in Bangkok will be crabs.
This curry will not be spicy, and like massaman it will have a complex taste of the slightly sweet yellow curry taste, but with seafood.
The crab has so much meat and even the S size is enough for 2 people. It is very pricey (490THB for S size) compared to other curries in Bangkok but worth a try!
Pad pong from Krung Siam is really good too...
This is not in Bangkok but if you are ever in Tokyo I would really recommend Krung Siam. I used to go regularly when they had 2 shops in Jiyugaoka, and whoever I go with always became a big fan of the pad pong curry.
It became a chain now and I prefer going to the Oimachi branch now, but I think the Roppongi is the easiest access for international travelers. If you are a foodie, I think you will be able to tell why I like it so much!
The service was so memorable in Bangkok
Especially when I was a little outside of the city center of Bangkok, I received amazing service from the local staff. I will never forget Duklong but there was another vegan cafe May Veggie near where I stayed (Their khao soi is amazing...)
One time I wanted to eat green curry, so I asked them if they don't have green curry. Then, they told me to wait a little bit, then they cooked it for me. It seemed like they used to have it on their menu, but now not so they made it for me from scratch. It was so worth the wait.
This will very rarely be possible in Japan, where everything is fixed. I saw so much flexibility in how they interacted with customers, which was heartwarming.
I will write about street food another time!
