How I got hooked learning something new everyday.

I'm hooked on learning something new everyday.

Right now I try my best to walk every morning around my neighborhood in Karatsu City.

The people here are much more laid back and polite and I learn from them a lot about the city and fishes as well, which was the main reason why I decided to settle here.

They care more about spending quality time with family than chasing money.

I know a lot more about things outside of Karatsu or Kyushu, so I answer what they're curious about.

In return they teach me about Karatsu and how it used to be and how it is today. Each person has their opinions and thoughts about how they see the city, of course.

And that's very interesting and inspiring for me. It makes me think about what I want to do here.

My interest is fishing and fishes in general. So I learn about that a lot here and through my morning walks.

I've been around many places in the world, but in my eyes the locals I met in Bali seemed happiest.
These people had minimal materials, but the family was very close together helping each other out.

We would surround a set of traditional food and eat together with their local sake called Arak. We will talk about life, teach each other, sing, and dance along the way.

This incident was just a fun, ordinary travel experience at the time, but it gradually dawned on me to have the same kind of life where I am in Karatsu.

I flew to Thailand to try Vipassana Meditation after Covid, when I was stressed I couldn't really put myself together.
I experienced a simple walking routine which still helps me today.

I had started a HIIT exercise everyday when I was depressed from Covid. Then this habit started to start another good habit, that improved my mood.
Then I started reading and researching meditation and Buddhism. I'm glad I did.
But I really am grateful that I'm very lucky to meet all kinds of people that I can inspire and learn from each other.

Sustainability in food, especially the ocean and seafood is a problem I see which I want to focus on.

I learn everyday, little by little about fish and how to sustain that to a mutual balance of seafood, the sea, and humans.
I started from fishing and learning how to fillet fishes, then to sell fish in Tsukiji, then to fillet some more at a big market in Karatsu.

Now when I walk along the sea during my morning walks, I see a lot of garbage floating around.

So these are one of the things I'm interested in working on to sustain the balance of species and nature.
This is also notes for me, I want to write about what I learned in:
  • What I learned in France
  • What I learned from my dad
The reason I'm very lucky in meeting good relationships is probably from these two experiences.
  • What I learned in Singapore
  • What I learned from my grandpa
So, more blog posts to come:)

These are 4 small projects I'm working on starting.
  • Teach English at Choko Bar
  • Training tour guides in Karatsu
  • Hold Kintsugi workshop events in English at Choko Bar in English.
  • Connect internationals and locals to exchange culture related to food.

Come see me in Choko Bar just in front of Karatsu Station

I work as a sake bartender at Choko Bar, a bar/cafe where you can try local sake and light meals with Karatsu dishes and cups.

I'm currently in charge of Thursdays, on Friday it will be someone who used to run a jaz kissaten cafe in Sapporo, and on weekends and public holidays a very nice and gourmet lady from Kitakyushu.

The owner wants me to make it a place for international travelers to know more about Karatsu, and I'll do my best to connect you with the local regulars that know a lot about this small but very interesting Bushido and foodie town!

Come join me on the journey at Karatsu.

I moved into Karatsu on March, 2025 from the variety of fish it has.

But I want to try to work with the local businesses and the government to show you hints of the samurai town.

It has great traditional content that is interesting, but it's still hidden.

It will be my pleasure to show you the charms of the samurai city as an experience that we all can learn from to better our lives.

I would love to connect with people interested in fishes, cooking, and Japanese food. Share me your interests, and let's hang out!

This will be my long game, and I look forward to sharing what happens.
