It's Karatsu Sake Brewery Summit(唐津酒蔵サミット)at Gofukumachi Shopping Street(呉服町商店街)tomorrow, Sunday!

Here is a chance to try 3 local sake from Saga Prefecture just for 1000JPY.

The breweries are going to gather at the shopping street, so no need to visit them, they all gather to see us thirsty sake drinkers.

Why Saga Sake

Due to its rich rice production, Saga's sake is known for its exceptional taste.

It has won many domestic and international awards, which made the prefecture a major destination for people passionate in Japanese Sake.

  • Premium Brand Nabeshima won the top prize, "Champion Sake," in the sake category at the 2011 International Wine Challenge (IWC), and has been highly praised both in and out of Japan. It has become so popular that some now refer to it as  "phantom sake."
  • "Shichida"七田 brand sake has won numerous gold medals at international tasting competitions, including the Kura Master President's Award.

There is a booth set up at the Gofukumachi Shopping Center Office where you can buy sake bottles to bring back home. So find your favorite Saga Sake, and buy it there for souvenirs!

Your Karatsu Info blog

I settled in Karatsu on March, 2025 and it has been a nice foodie ride here.

While I enjoy the food and marine nature here, I also want to share what I experienced here in the blog in English, so it might help you when you plan your travels.

I'm currently an English teacher and also work as a sake bartender at Choko Bar, a bar/cafe where you can try local sake and light meals with Karatsu dishes and cups.

I'm currently in charge of Thursday and Friday, and on weekends and public holidays will be managed by a very nice and gourmet lady from Kitakyushu.

The owner wants me to make it a place for international travelers to know more about Karatsu, and I'll do my best to connect you with the local regulars that know a lot about this small but very interesting Bushido and foodie town!

Come join me on the journey at Karatsu.

I moved into Karatsu on March, 2025 from the variety of fish it has.

But I want to try to work with the local businesses and the government to show you hints of the samurai town.

It has great traditional content that is interesting, but it's still hidden.

It will be my pleasure to show you the charms of the samurai city as an experience that we all can learn from to better our lives.
