My Life Work②: Learn&Share about Good Habits.

The Pandemic gave me an opportunity to start one small habit, which led to the next, then the next.

  • How one good habit led to another
  • Sticking to good habits might seem boring.

But being consistent and building a good routine keeps a better mood.

Better and consistent mood result in better life.

It doesn't really need to be flashy.

It's been 6 months since I moved and settled to Karatsu.

Life is quiet here, with nature around me.

I can walk to an empty beach and walk along the sea with the view of Karatsu Castle.

Locals are also exercising and some fishing.

It's easier to build good habits here.

I also realized that Karatsu resembles where I grew up in a small town near San Francisco. There, there was no entertainment whatsoever, so we ride our bicycles along the sea, play basketball, or soccer, enjoy nature.

That was about it and that's what I enjoy doing now.

So, I think people like having habits they grew up with.

What happened after following my interests

During the pandemic was a perfect time to start my life over.

I was an interpreter and writer, but I started looking for what I will be interested in next.

Hokkaido was too cold for me and I couldn't really cope with the climate neither.

So I started off by working in Malaysia for awhile, then started to travel.

Then, one incident got me hooked on filleting fish in Bali.

Then that led me to start fishing in Hokkaido. Fishing in Hokkaido made me want to work in Tsukiji to learn more about fish.

In Tsukiji, I saw a variety of fish coming from across Japan, and even from abroad. The people working there are so skillful they helped and directed me to learn about fish and how it's processed to taste good.

Then in Tsukiji, the master chef told me it's good to learn in Kyushu, where the techniques to process the fish is more technical. That led me to settle in Karatsu.
Here in Karatsu, I'm starting to fish nearby, learn from local fish experts. Karatsu is famous for its Karatsuyaki ceramics, and learning about the local food culture is engaging.

I'm glad I followed my interests, going step by step on where it leads.

When I organize it to a post like this, it sounds easy but it's not.

I had many difficulties, setbacks, and wonderings of what I should do next.

But when I look back, I have a life that suits me better than when I was in Hokkaido.

And it's good habits, that is most important.

I've met a lot of people in my journey, and I've met some people that were successful in their own ways, living happily.

I realized that the things they have in common, are good habits they stick to even when it's challenging.

Consistency and discipline lead to a good outcome, not anything else.

Moving from one place to another had its perks, but sticking to one place that suits me allows me to build good habits.

I have a life work that I want to storytell about good food, but another is to share good habits lead to results.

And how I overcame my past mistakes and setbacks for a better life that suits me.
